The Educational & Labor impact of Head Lice
Head lice and nits are very common in young children and their families. Studies show that 1 in 9 students contract head lice at some point during their time spent at daycare and school.
Additionally, estimates show a child will contract head lice 3 to 5 times over their formative learning years, usually between 3 to 11 years of age.
While they have nothing to do with dirty hair, the social stigma associated with head lice perseveres in spite of as many as 13 million infected US children yearly.
Attendance records demonstrate head lice account for 13 to 25 million school days lost annually in the U.S. with a near equivalent number of lost parental work days.
Head lice are small insects, up to 3mm long.
They can be difficult to spot in your hair.
Head lice eggs (nits) are brown or white (empty shells) and attached to the hair.
